Downs, Pirates, Chiefs dressing room drama explained

After accusations that Mamelodi Sundowns were badly treated at FNB Stadium, in a dressing room drama, it has been revealed why Kaizer Chiefs' change room was locked.

Sundowns felt inconvenienced at FNB Stadium prior to their game against Orlando Pirates, after being made to use a reserve dressing room and not the main away team change room.

Pirates, the home team on the day, were forced to use an away dressing room, after Chiefs, who use the stadium facilities as their home base, did not open up their dressing room, which would have been used by Bucs.

As a result, the man in Yellow and Blue had to use a dressing room further away from the tunnel, one that was so far that their opponents had to wait for them, delaying the game by at least six minutes, before they could arrive at the tunnel.

Even during the warm-up, the Tshwane giants did not use the main entrance of the tunnel, as they emerged from a different direction, getting into the field via the corner of the pitch.

There have been questions and criticism on why Amakhosi did not allow their home dressing room to be used.

Club legend Doctor Khumalo has revealed the reason.

"Kaizer Chiefs are tenants. What happened is Chiefs have a branded dressing room because they use it as their home ground. There's equipment, there's so many things that Chiefs left (at the dressing room)," Khumalo said on SABC's SoccerZone.

"So, even the national team does not use Chiefs' dressing room when they play at FNB. It's got their personal things that stay in the dressing room, that's why they lock it."

Pirates went on to win the game 2-1 thanks to a quick brace by Relebohile Mofokeng.
