Mammila: I'm done with coaching

Morgan Mammila, the newly appointed Sporting Director of Chippa United, has made a surprising decision regarding his coaching career.

Mammila, who holds a CAF B Licence, has chosen to step away from coaching and return to football administration.

Currently, Chippa are ninth on the Betway Premiership standings with 10 matches to go.

Speaking from the Mayor's Cup in Pondoland, Mammila revealed what the goal is.

"To be honest, I believe I must do justice to football, especially here in the Eastern Cape. The fans deserve better. My job will be to ensure that Chippa is transformed into a much better team," Mammila said, speaking exclusively to KickOff.com.

"I'm done sitting on the bench. I have a head coach, assistants, and a video analyst. We discuss team progress every day. You won't see me coaching again.

"Coaching is like being a father to your kids. As long as you are honest with the players and the game, you will never go wrong. I believe I've done my part in coaching. I've earned my badges and hold the record for being the only coach to win four consecutive games with this team.

"However, that record needs to be surpassed soon because I can't be a Sporting Director overseeing a team that struggles to win five games in a row," he continued.

The tough-talking Mammila says he is no longer sitting on the bench as he wants to ensure the Gqeberha-based outfit is run properly.

"I'm operating like the Sporting Directors in Europe, who don't coach. As a Sporting Director, I am satisfied with the technical team I have, and they have my full support. Every day, I monitor their work and the team's progress.

"Next season, our goal is to be a better team than we were this season, aiming for a top five finish.

"We cannot continue to play in a full stadium at our home ground in Buffalo City and end up at the bottom of the log. That era is over.

"This season, our aim is to ensure the team is safe, with the Top Eight as our target."

Chippa are next at home against AmaZulu FC on Saturday.
