The role of a Sporting Director at a PSL club has been a hot topic of discussion since Rulani Mokwena allegedly fell out with Flemming Berg at Mamelodi Sundowns, and it has now been explained what it entails.
So far, at least five coaches have lost their jobs in the local game, a situation Makhubedu believes could be avoided.

Having risen through the ranks from coaching, he is among the few Sporting Directors in South African football, joining the likes of Kaizer Chiefs' Kaizer Motaung and Flemming Berg of Mamelodi Sundowns.
"It comes down to the respect given to a coach and the time allowed for them to work. Coaches need to have full control over the team and be in charge of all technical matters within the club," Makhubedu explains, speaking exclusively to KickOff.com.
"Is the coach free to express themselves? Is the coach allowed to work without restrictions? The coaching merry-go-round in South Africa will continue if coaches are not treated as professionals.
"In other countries, this is less of an issue because coaches generally manage the entire team. Together with the board, I appoint the coach and oversee the technical aspects of the team, handling the day-to-day operations under the Chief Executive Officer's office.
"The board ultimately decides if the relationship between the club and the coach should end. As the Sporting Director, my role is to support the coach and their technical team, as well as the players. I strive to ensure the coach is not under pressure and has everything necessary to perform their job effectively.
"I also work closely with our scouts," he says.
Makhubedu says regarding the club's plans for the January transfer window, there will be consultation with the coach and the technical team.
"We would be pleased if we could improve on last season's performance. With my input, the team has progressed from 11th to seventh place, and now to fourth. We just need to maintain our standards. We are now a top six team.

"I'm pleased with the success of my superiors and the technical team members. I feel that I am growing in this position. My experience as a coach from the LFA to the PSL helps me understand coaches better. We have assembled a very talented squad, and our talent scouts have been performing exceptionally well.
"We have some of the best scouts in the league, including Sipho Mali, who is highly qualified and capable of scouting internationally, and Themba Sithole, who works alongside him."
When asked about the status of midfielder Shaun Mogaila, Makhubedu stated the matter was being addressed internally.
