The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits midfielder recorded zero goals or assists in the 10 appearances made before the agreement was reached to depart.
The 33-year-old fell out of favour with Sead Ramovic with the Serbian questioning Vilakazi's commitment.

Vila has since linked up with Sekhukhune United after making a huge impression while training with the club.
His agreement with Babina Noko is that he will do duty until the end of the season with the arrangement then being assessed by then before the optional year is activated.
The fact that Sekhukhune train in Johannesburg was a factor for the Meadowlands native as he will remain close to his family.
With the Nedbank Cup their next assignment on Friday it will give Brandon Truter an opportunity to hand Vilakazi his debut.
From winning four in a row, Sekhukhune have now gone through a dismal run in which they have lost four of the last five.
