'We beat ourselves' - Truter on Chiefs defeat

Sekhukhune United head coach Brandon Truter insists side was not bettered by Kaizer Chiefs but rather by failing to make use of their own scoring chances.

Babina Noko surrendered their first half lead  to eventually lose 2-1 to Amakhosi at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday night. Goals came from Chiefs' Edson Castillo and Edmilson Dove following Sekhukhune's Elias Mokwana's opener.

Speaking after match, Truter said his side could have comfortably won the match had their taken their chances.

"I think we deserved better, or deserved something from the game," Truter said.

"We managed to make them uncomfortable in certain situations and I think with better decision making we could have punished them even more.

I'm not sure if it's press conference or the interviews immediately after games when the emotions are still high from coaches. [I say that] because I'm tempted to say or I'm going to say we beat ourselves tonight. No disrespect to Chiefs.

"Maybe it's emotions talking, but the fact is we made two mistakes tonight. We had clear cut chances, we should have punished them. What we are lacking is being clinical from the front, from the players that get those chances. We need to tuck it away. We need to bury teams in the first half.

"Royal AM last week, same scenario, we took one. We had some many chances. The CAF game it should have been five, six. I don't think it's us. It's a South African problem right now.

"We score one or two. we are not taking our chances but from it's definitely something to work on. It's something we need to eradicate. We've employed Collins Mbesuma and a goalkeeper coach to try and limit that situation so we are mindful abut that."

After Wednesday's results, Sekhukhune slip to seventh on the DStv Premiership log table. They now turn their attention to the CAF Confederations Cup second preliminary round clash against Saint Eloi Lupopo to be played on Sunday.

Kick-off is at 16:30 (SA time).
