Hunt insists Sundowns should only be judged on CAF Champions League

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt insists that rivals Mamelodi Sundowns should be judged on their CAF Champions League performance after tightening their stranglehold on local football.

Sundowns stretched their lead at the top of the DStv Premiership standings to 14 points after a 1-0 win over their Tshwane rivals at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Monday.

The Brazilians now look set to break their own record set in 2015/16 where they amassed 71 points.

"For me, you can only judge your team on the ability of the players you have," Hunt said.

"Don't come with what people say this and that, judge what you got, and judge what they got.

"Sundowns shouldn't be judged on the DStv Premiership.

"To be honest, they should be judged on the CAF Champions league, where they should be in the semi-finals and finals every year.

"That's how we should judge them because the gap is so big over everybody in South Africa, and it's unfortunate.

"But the way the game has gone, it's unfortunate but it is what is.

Mamelodi Sundowns next face Kaizer Chiefs in a league clash at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 20:00.
