'I don't think anyone is going to catch them' - Hunt on challenging Sundowns

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt says it's unlikely that any team will catch up to DStv Premiership league winners Mamelodi Sundowns in the next few seasons.

The Brazilians extended their dominance over the Premiership by sealing a sixth consecutive league title with seven games to spare. Thanks in some part to several former SuperSport players such Teboho Mokoena, Ronwen Williams and Sipho Mbule to name a few.

Asked if Matsatsantsa, who have climbed as high as second position this season, could unseat Sundowns next season, Hunt said the gap between Bafana Ba Style and the rest for the league is currently too wide to bridge.

Well, just give us the five or six players back to us from Sundowns and we will show you. We will show you where we can go,

"It's unfortunate [to lose players], but we are going to have to find new ones, that's my game. We will find new ones, we will get younger ones in, try and close the gap.

"They [Sundowns] have set the bar so high now, I don't think anyone is going to catch them in the next few years that's for sure. But we need to get closer, make it more competitive, which we will do.

"We make the games [against Sundowns] competitive, but it's not about [only being competitive] against them, we need to make it against everybody. That's where I think the difference is in the league.

"It's all very well when you play the league champions you make it competitive but when we played the bottom teams this season, we took two or three points from them. There is your problem. We need to be winning those games."

SuperSport are currently in third place in the DStv Premiership table and will come up against a Kaizer Chiefs side as equally motived to secure continental football when the two teams on Saturday at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
