In this edition of My First Paycheque, KickOff catches up with former SuperSport United player Seuntjie Motlhajwa.
Motlhajwa reveals the first-ever salary the Tshwane club paid him in 2009.
Who you signed for?
"SuperSport United in 1999. I was doing Standard 9. When I signed for SuperSport, I had just been released at a Sports school for age-cheating."
How much was it?
"My first paycheque came from the SuperSport United gate takings, it was R1000.
"It was me, Gerald Modabi and Gerald Sibeko who were paid like that. We only started getting reasonable salaries after three months."
How do I celebrate?
"I was staying with my mother, sister, aunt and grandmother so I gave them the whole R1000.
"At first they didn't believe me, they thought I was lying. They only believed me after they had counted the money.
"From that R1000 they decided to give me R500 to buy myself some cosmetics."
What did I buy with it?
"From that R500 I bought myself Brandy's CD, I still have it even today."
Did it last you the full month?
"Yes, it did last me the full month because the club bought us food, so I only used the R500 for transport.
"SuperSport was struggling those days, we used Taxis to get to training. You wouldn't say we were playing in the PSL. But then again there's nothing we could do because we had already signed for the club."
