My Muti Story - Enocent Mkhabela

In this edition of My Muti Story, we catch up with former Sivutsa Stars, Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United player Enocent Mkhabela.

Who and where?

"I remember very well I was still playing at Sivutsa Stars when something interesting happened.

"We were in the 2011 playoffs preparing for the finals, but we had already qualified for the National First Division.

"We were in Cape Town next to the beach busy bathing in muti and jumping the fire when white men who worked for some security company showed up and kicked our fire and the bath full of muti. It was still dark, just before sunrise.

"They said no one was allowed there during that time.

"We were in the ABC Motsepe League competing for a spot in the NFD."

Why were you doing it?

"To be able to beat the other teams."

Who was the muti man?

"A certain old man from Enkomazi in Mpumalanga. He used to wear normal clothes like a normal person."

What did you have to do?

"All we had to do was to give him our soccer boots and follow his instructions. He would then sprinkle some water on those boots."

Did everyone take part?

"We all took part. No one complained.

What stood out?

"It's the way the owners of the club and management believed in muti. All we did was to follow instructions."

What was the result?

"We lost to Chippa United in the final but still we were promoted to the first division. We lost 1-0."
