Story Behind My Nickname: Phathusedzo "Pogba" Nange

In this edition of Story Behind My Nickname, KickOff catches up with current SuperSport United midfielder Phathusedzo Nange on the origin behind his nickname "Pogba".

Paul Pogba is a 30-year-old France international who features as a midfielder for Serie A side Juventus.

Who and where did you play?

"The 31-year-old central midfielder and former South Africa international started his professional football career at JDR Stars, before moving to Black Leopards.

His great performances in Venda saw him earning moves to the likes of Bidvest Wits, Kaizer Chiefs and now SuperSport United."

What's your nickname?

"Pogba. But people call me by different names. But most people call me Pogba."

Who gave it to you and why?

"Pogba, it came from the Black Leopards supporters. They said I played a similar style to him.

"They were saying we have similar qualities like our passing range capability.

"I learned about the nickname from the media and the supporters."

Did you like it?

"Yes, it did put me under pressure, but I do like it to be honest."

Anyone that didn't use it?

"Yeah, there are some people who are not using it, especially here at SuperSport United no one calls me Pogba honestly.

"Here they just call me Phatu."

If you could relive it, what would you want your nickname to be?

"I had many football nicknames before. And I'm fine with any name that was given to me because of football, but I do prefer Pogba.

"I believe nicknames are important, they do motivate you as a player.

"But the Pogba nickname didn't make me try to change my style of play and tried to play exactly like him, I just continued with my style of play."
