Hunt: I would go back to Chiefs

Established coach Gavin Hunt has not ruled out the possibility of a return to Kaizer Chiefs, should the opportunity present itself in the future.

The four-time league-winning coach was handed the reigns by the Soweto giants during the 2020/21 season as he guided the now-defunct Bidvest Wits to fourth-place despite the club getting sold towards the end of the campaign.

Now enjoying a second spell at SuperSport United, the 57-year-old didn't have the impact everyone had hoped for at Amakhosi but helped the team to a maiden semi-final in the CAF Champions League before parting ways with the club.

"Yeah, I mean come on, let's be honest. Listen, we got the semi-finals of the Champions League. Then, obviously they got to the final and after that I got the bullet on the semi-final. It's a great club, great institution," Hunt said via Thisisfootball.Africa.

Hunt is happy that the club has undergone on an overhaul now, but it should have been done years ago and laments how the team was allowed to get old together.

Furthermore, the coach added that during his time, the team was ageing and needed a face-lift but he wasn't afforded it, as he needed to conclude the campaign, despite being leaving the club with games to spare.

"They needed an overhaul and they've done a complete overhaul now since I left. Now they got a whole new team in now and they needed it three, four years ago.

"When Jeff Butler went into Chiefs, he got rid of Ace (Ntsoelengoe), Teenage (Dladla), there was a huge uproar... Remember those days? They wanted to slaughter him. The next season, Jeff won five trophies," the 59-year-old added.

"So, come on you can't let a team get old together never. The team was old, it's the nature of the beast and the team needed changing. It was one of those things.

"I needed to get to the end of the season, I was two games away from the end of the season then there was a change," Hunt said.

After parting with Hunt, the Glamour Boys have seen Arthur Zwane, Stuart Baxter, Molefi Ntseki assume the reins with no success, as Cavin Johnson has now been tasked to steer the ship on an interim basis.
