Grobler's painful pause to goals record chase

SuperSport United might be forced to delve into the transfer market once more in pursuit of a top striker after their gunslinger Bradley Grobler was stretchered off the field against Orlando Pirates on the weekend.

It would seem head coach Gavin Hunt has a massive headache with the star marksman facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

At 36, the veteran is expected to take longer to recover as there are fears of his recurring groin injury, which has tormented him for years.

What is concerning is that Grobler already has two of his groins repaired.

The club is still waiting for the results of a full scan even though word is they can already tell it has something to do with the groin.

If the injury requires surgery, then the player might be out of the game for a long period.

The former Platinum Stars man sustained the injury during SuperSport's 3-1 loss to Pirates in the MTN8 quarterfinals at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

Such an injury usually takes months to heal.

"At the moment, nobody knows how bad the injury is, as the club will only have their next training session on Thursday. But it is a groin injury and looked quite bad," a source revealed to KickOff.

Grobler will be greatly missed by Matsatsantsa as he is one of the few players to have reached 100-goal mark in the Premier Soccer League era, alongside the likes of Siyabonga Nomvete,  Manuel 'Tico-Tico' Bucuane, Daniel Mudau and Collins Mbesuma.

Currently on 112 goals, he is chasing top man Nomvethe's 123 strikes, but that has painfully been brought to a potentially lengthy pause.
