Komphela linked with new club after Swallows exit

Moroka Swallows coach Steve Komphela could make a sensational return to KwaZulu-Natal, according to sources.

Insiders have revealed to KickOff that Golden Arrows are understood to be eyeing up the well-travelled coach.

Arrows are currently on a poor run of form in the DStv Premiership and suffered a 3-1 defeat to TS Galaxy in Mbombela on Sunday.

The Durban-based outfit remains in ninth position on the log with only 23 points after playing 17 games thus far.

According to sources close to Arrows, the club is looking to make technical team changes with indications that Mabhuti Khenyeza looks set for a different role within the club.

"The club has identified a coach to work with Mabhuti Khenyeza. The discussions are ongoing behind the scenes with Steve Komphela touted as the man to rescue Golden Arrows," said the source.

Komphela has since parted ways Swallows, with the Dube Birds confirming the coach's exit last night.

The former Kaizer Chiefs coach has not reported for duty at Swallows since the club resumed training after the AFCON-enforced break.

Komphela coached Arrows during the 2019/20 season before leaving to join Mamelodi Sundowns. The former Bafana Bafana captain has coached several clubs in the Premiership including Bloemfontein Celtic, Maritzburg United, Platinum Stars, and Free State Stars.
