Swallows lost matches because of Muti

In this edition of My Muti Story former Moroka Swallows star Sisa Nombe reveals how the club used to slaughter goats and sheep just to perform muti rituals.

According to Nombe no club take the muti issue seriously like The Dube Birds.

"When I joined Swallows they appeared like a normal team, but as for ukugabha, ukuphalaza, slaughtering...those things happened there," Nombe tells KickOff.

"I remember Jacob Lekgetho the late telling me that what you are using at home, use it here because we will never judge you.

"At Jomo Cosmos, I played with the likes of Tico Tico [Bucuane] and they believed in their stuff from Mozambique.

"But at Swallows, they went to the extent of even doing traditional ceremonies.

"And remember we had some white players Mark McVeigh, Gary McNab, but they all did as the Romans did.

"If the club slaughtered a goat the white players would also attend.

"The likes of Kevin Rafferty would watch in disbelief and say 'Ja nee, they are killing the ship huh? That's animal cruelty.' (Laughs).

"To them, it was a culture shock. To us it was normal. It was so funny.

"Those days Swallows had few white guys, there was also Gavin Lane...but they all ended up taking part in those rituals.

"[Laughs] Eish you will laugh in football, my brother.

"At one stage we went to play Kaizer Chiefs and three doves flew above us and we were then told 'Guys today we are winning 3-0'.

"(Laughs) Guess what? Chiefs beat us 3-0."
