John Tlale backs Brilliant Khuzwayo to win goalkeeping battle at Orlando Pirates

Khuzwayo currently faces competition for game-time from Wayne Sandilands, Jackson Mabokgwane and Siyabonga Mpontshane, who have all failed to win the complete trust of head coach Milutin Sredojevic.

“Khuzwayo has a good chance because if you look at all Pirates' goalkeepers from last season there was no consistency,” Tlale says.

“He is one player who was playing as a substitute at Chiefs and whenever he was called to do the job he was doing it very well. At Chiefs the team was always under pressure and he will be able to handle that pressure because I think he is brave and calm. Whatever he is doing he is doing it correctly without putting himself under pressure.”

With Khuzwayo's recent arrival from Kaizer Chiefs, Tlale suspects Bucs will release the ageing Sandilands, who only joined the club from Mamelodi Sundowns at the beginning of last season.

“I think they will release Wayne Sandilands. Jackson Mabokgwane was not that bad, he just lost concentration at times but he has been doing very well.

“If you look at the age, Sandilands is over 30 and Siyabonga Mpontshane is over 30 as well, and Mabokgwane still has a good chance.

“But I think Brilliant made a good move to join Pirates because I was concerned with his situation at Chiefs with Itumeleng Khune doing very well.

“I think when times goes on he will be part of the national team, I can bet on that.

“I think Brilliant will be more consistent and when he plays he will gain more confidence. What I like about him is his positioning is good and he is brave. He is always calm even when he is under pressure.”
