Ghana 'decides' manager's future after AFCON flop

Ghana have reportedly finally decided the future of manager Otto Addo following his failure to guide the team to 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification.

Addo came under significant criticism earlier this month after the Black Stars finished rock-bottom of their group with zero wins in six qualifying matches.

Despite being ranked higher than all their opponents in Group F – Angola, Sudan and Niger – Ghana only claimed three points after three draws and three defeats.

Unsurprisingly, there have been loud calls for Addo's head, with the tactician also being involved in a heated exchange with journalists in Ghana, who questioned his credentials as a manager.

Following this incident, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced that they would meet with the coach to discuss a way forward, as the Black Stars are set to miss AFCON for the first time in two decades.

According to GhanaSoccernet, Addo was instructed to submit a technical report to the GFA's Executive Council explaining why they did not qualify for AFCON.

After he was made to appear before the Executive Council on Wednesday, 27 November, the majority of the panel is said to have voted in favour of retaining Addo in charge.

Meanwhile, former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe said the national team's huge failure is not a surprise.

"Everyone associated with football is not happy about what has gone on that, Ghana will not be part of the assembly of African footballing nations at the AFCON 2025," he said.

"It's very unfortunate and I think it is something that causes a lot of pain. My assessment is that it is an unfortunate situation and an unfortunate development.

"Of course, it was coming considering our performances in the past two AFCON tournaments. It was something which was clear for all of us to see that things were not going well with the team.

"Our performances have not been anything to be proud of in the qualifiers. We saw signs and the signals were clear on the wall so this is not entirely surprising."
