Osimhen: We are capable of winning this tournament

Victor Osimhen has now said that his Nigeria side are "capable of winning" the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 2023 CAF Player of the Year is determined to make up for past errors, revealing that the country's supporters deserve better after witnessing their side fail to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup that was held in Qatar.

Osimhen seems to still be haunted by the day they drew 1-1 with Ghana in the final stages of qualifying at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium. The Black Stars would subsequently qualify on away goals, leaving the Super Eagles devastated.

The 25-year-old still feels that the team let their people down.

"We could not have asked for more from our supporters in Abuja that night," he said via Sportstar.

"They roared us on from the first whistle to the last. The noise they created was deafening. but we let them down and that hurt. Nigerians deserved better."

Now, however, the Napoi talisman believes that the Super Eagles have an opportunity to make up for their past failure by getting their hands on what is arguably the biggest honour an African team can achieve.

"We are capable of winning this tournament because the squad is packed with players who are performing exceptionally well for their European clubs," Osimhen said.

"All of us are desperate to make up for failing to reach the 2022 World Cup. The only way we can achieve that goal is by wining the Cup of Nations."
