Mayele's Visa situation ahead of Pirates game 'confirmed

With several Pyramids FC players, including star striker Fiston Mayele, reportedly facing visa issues ahead of their trip to South Africa, an update on the situation has now emerged.

On Friday, 18 April, Orlando Pirates will host Pyramids in the first leg of their CAF Champions League semi-final.

It is believed that the match will be played at the FNB Stadium instead of the Bucs’ usual home ground, Orlando Stadium, due to a three-day Easter church event taking place there from Friday to Sunday.

Pyramids are already preparing to travel to Johannesburg; however, reports indicated that the team was facing challenges in securing visas for some of their foreign players.

A source at Pyramids FC, though, has confirmed to Stad Al-Mehwar — the programme presented by Khaled Al-Ghandour — that the issue has now been resolved.

"Pyramids have resolved the travel issue for the foreign players heading to South Africa," the source is quoted as saying.

"The foreign players will receive their visas tomorrow and will travel with the team without any problems, in preparation for the match against Orlando."

DR Congolese star Mayele faced visa issues in December 2023 when Pyramids played Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld, which led to him not travelling to Pretoria with the team.

Mayele, who had a public outburst about the issue, is said to have his papers sorted this time around.

"The only issue was with Fiston Mayele, but he will receive his visa without any problems.

"The other three — Kahraba, Chibi, and Blati Touré — are travelling without any issues and are already with the squad as normal."
