An African coach has shared his belief that coaches from the continent are not respected in Europe, adding that they need to be treated better at home too.
Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Remo Stars' coach Daniel Ogunmodede has insisted that local coaches should get more support in big roles in order for them to excel.

The 44-year-old used the case of ex-Super Eagles coach Finidi George as an example, saying that his appointment as head coach of the national side was a "joy" but came without the assistance needed.
This comes after George's decision to resign in June after being at the helm for just two games, in which Nigeria were held to a 1-1 draw with South Africa, before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Benin in the latest round of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Those results are believed to have prompted the hierarchy into hiring a technical director who would have overseen George, which was highlighted by the 53-year-old as one of the reasons he decided to part ways with the national side, and is something Ogunmodede agrees with.
"It's an affront to the dignity of local coaches. Finidi was a thing of joy for us," the NPFL coach said, per Soccernet.ng.
"I was so happy [even as the secretary of the league club managers], we wanted the best for him, but look at the way he [Finidi] was 'jet' out, there was not enough support.
"If you want a coach to do well, give him better support.
"If any job is coming from the national team to any of the local coaches, there must be total support for the coach to excel."
Ogunmodede went on to add that the best thing to do is go to Europe, even though he feels African coaches are not respected there, and then return to Africa with new knowledge so that the continent can benefit from it.
"The truth is, if opportunity comes, it is a clarion call, this is our country and we can't run away," he continued.
"I had the opportunity to stay in Europe, but what use is that if I can't come back to my country to make things happen?
"No matter what I do, these guys will not respect us there, so the best thing is to bring this knowledge home and try to see how we all can benefit from it.
"So, if the opportunity comes, today or tomorrow, there is no room to say no. The national team is bigger than any one of us."
