African giants to hire Pep's ex-assistant as new boss?

One of Pep Guardiola's former assistant coaches is now said to be among the leading candidates to land the top job at one of the biggest teams in Africa.

The Nigeria national team is yet to confirm its permanent replacement for recently departed manager Jose Peseiro.

Former Super Eagles star Finidi George has been made interim coach until the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) makes its decision on a new permanent boss, which is now said to be leaning towards a foreign coach.

According to Africa Top Sports, the NFF's technical committee is set to hire Domenec Torrent if they decide to appoint a foreign manager next.

The Spaniard is understood have applied for the position, becoming one of more than 40 applications said to have been received for the vacancy. 

According to the abovementioned publication, an NFF insider has revealed that the 61-year-old's CV stood out for them, with the tactician having worked with Guardiola at FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City. 

Torrent has also occupied head coach roles at Flamengo (Brazil), New York City (US), Galatasaray (Turkey) and Girona (Spain).

It is also noted that the tactician likes to employ a fluid, attractive style of football, although he is yet to win a major trophy.
