'Ahly boss won't let 5 players leave, Tau likely to stay'

According to reports in Egypt, Al Ahly are determined to keep five of their players, while it is also claimed Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau could stay at the club.

Tau's future in Cairo remains somewhat of a mystery, with the South African now in the final year of his contract at the club.

In recent months, the 30-year-old has been the subject of ever-increasing speculation, with clubs in the Middle East and Africa reportedly sniffing at the possibility of securing the 2023 CAF Men's Inter-Club Player of the Year's signature.

Tau himself has been mum on his future, while there has been no absolute public stance from Ahly as to whether he will still be in Cairo next season or leave the club in the current window.

However, according to Egyptian media figure Walid Al-Hadidi, Red Devils boss Marcel Koller would not mind keeping Tau at the club alongside five other players the Swiss tactician deems untouchable.

Moreover, it is said that Koller has already spoken to Tau, asking him to prepare himself for next season, amid rumours the forward sustained another minor injury in recent weeks.

Al-Hadidi told the Box to Box TV show: "Koller excluded Tau from the last matches because he was not technically ready, and the team includes good players, and he did not rely on the South African player because he was not physically ready, and therefore the player will most likely remain in Al Ahly.

"The football management is in constant contact with Marcel Koller regarding external offers, and is committed to five players: Wessam Abou Ali, Imam Ashour, Hussein El Shahat, Marawan Attia and Akram Tawfik. Other than the five players, any player can be discussed."
