Al Ahly confirm Tau injury

With Percy Tau having sat on the bench during Bafana Bafana's recent clash against Zimbabwe, it has been confirmed that the Al Ahly star will be spending more time on the sidelines.

Bafana were without Tau during their 3-1 win over Zim in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday, as the attacker was an unused substitute on the night.

With some speculating that he may have fallen out of favour in the national team, national team coach Hugo Broos confirmed during his post-match press conference on Tuesday that Tau's absence was due to an injury he sustained in their previous qualifying game against Nigeria.

"Percy is injured. He was injured after the Nigeria game," Broos told the press, as per SNL24. "We thought he would be ready today, but the treatment he's received in the last three days hasn't helped so much.

"We went to the hospital, and they did a scan. He has a muscular injury, and he couldn't play. Again, that shows he wanted to be on the bench. It shows how this group is. He supported the guys on the pitch. He's even happy than anyone else."

With the international break for CAF nations now over, Al Ahly have revealed that their South African star is set for a longer spell on the sidelines.

"The medical report we received from South Africa indicates that Tau has suffered a second-degree hamstring strain," Ahly's team doctor Ahmed Gaballah said, according to Ahram Online.

"Upon his arrival in Cairo, Tau will undergo further tests and scans to determine the exact extent of the injury and guide his treatment programme."
