An Al Ahly director has now confirmed that a penalty has been imposed on their South African star Percy Tau.
The Bafana Bafana forward seemingly landed himself in a spot of trouble following the 2023/24 CAF Champions League final, after he objected to being substituted during the match, an act that prompted the club to impose punishment on him.

The ex-Mamelodi Sundowns had made it clear at the time that he was against the manager Marcel Koller's decision to bring him off during the tie, with the matter needing intervention from his teammates as Tau made his frustration known.
It was then reported that the player would be punished for his behaviour, and the club's director of football, Khaled Bibo, has now confirmed that a penalty has been handed out.
"Percy Tau did not address me in the final match against Esperance of Tunisia. The player was angry and was talking to a member of the staff. A penalty was imposed on the player for not repeating the matter at all during the coming period once and for all, especially since there is a system within the club," he said on Egyptian TV, per El Watan.

"All matters within Al Ahly Club are clear regarding the issue of the rules regarding this matter, and the focus is always on having a system of rewards and punishments, which is what has happened during the recent period.
"Al Ahly club players were subjected to great pressure during the last period, due to the matches, and the great pressure between the league and the African Champions League, and I spoke with Hossam Hassan about everything, big and small, related to this file during the last hours."
Meanwhile, Al Ahly's record-extending 12th Champions League title this past weekend after their victory over Esperance ensured them a maiden spot at the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, which is set to take place later this year.
