Club pulls out of talks to sign Chiefs-linked Nigeria star

An international club has now reportedly pulled out of the race to sign a Kaizer Chiefs-linked Nigeria star.

Saudi Pro league side Al Ettifaq have withdrawn their interest in Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, pulling out of negotiations with the South African club, according to SCORENigeria.

It is said that the negotiation process had become drawn out, with the Steven Gerrard-led side believed to have run out of patience.

It has been claimed that while the Saudi club never had a problem with paying the amount required to secure the shot-stopper's services, they pulled out of a potential deal because they never received any assurance from the player's camp.

With a switch to the Saudi side now seemingly off the table, Nwabali is still expected to leave the Chili Boys at the end of the season.

According to reports, Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, EFL Championship side Queens Park Rangers, and Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs are among the clubs still interested in his signature, although it is believed the latter may move on too because of the amount it would take to secure his services after his reputation increased in a big way following his displays at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 27-year-old gained serious recognition after a stellar AFCON campaign in the Ivory Coast, helping the Super Eagles reach the final of the competition, where they narrowly missed out on lifting the trophy, losing 2-1 to the host nation.

Domestically, the keeper has managed to keep 10 clean sheets in 25 DStv Premiership matches this season as interest in his services seemingly continues to grow.

His current side, however, are 12th on the table after picking up eight wins and 10 draws in 29 encounters. They will play their final match of the season against Sekhukhune United on Saturday.
