The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has backed its candidate to beat Patrice Motsepe in the upcoming elections for CAF president.
Motsepe is now down to the last months of his term as CAF president, with the next elections reportedly set to take place in March 2025.

The South African billionaire was appointed as the head of the African football organising body in 2021, replacing former president Ahmad Ahmad after he was served with a five-year ban by FIFA for financial misconduct in November 2020.
With Ahmad barred from standing in the 2021 elections, Motsepe was put in office without any competition after FIFA president Gianni Infantino's intervention reportedly saw Augustin Senghor of Senegal, Ahmed Yahya of Mauritania, and Jacques Anouma of Ivory Coast withdraw their candidacy for election.
While Motsepe is yet to formally confirm whether or not he will run for a second term, zonal unions such as Cecafa, WAFU A and B, COSAFA, and UNIFFAC have publicly endorsed the business mogul to run for re-election.
Reports suggest that individuals have until the second week of November 2024 to confirm their candidacy in the election, and the EFA has now revealed its candidate for the election.
EFA member Ehab El-Komy has backed Hany Abo Rida, a member of the FIFA counsel, to assume the role of CAF president in the next elections.
El-Komy told television channel Sada El-Baled: "Hany Abo Rida is a strong candidate to assume the presidency of the Confederation of African Football.
"Hany Abo Rida is a great value in football, and whoever wants anything from Infantino should go first to Abo Rida.
"Abo Rida is capable of leading the African Union in the coming years, and this will benefit Egyptian football."
He added: "We have submitted a request for Egypt to host the upcoming African Youth Cup of Nations for those born in 2005."

During the 46th CAF Ordinary Assembly held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Tuesday, it was revealed that CAF had made significant improvements financially under Motsepe's stewardship, but it remains to be seen if he will stand for re-election.
