Ex-Chiefs boss has his say on Tau's future

Former Kaizer Chiefs manager Muhsin Ertugral has now had his say on South Africa and Al Ahly star Percy Tau's future.

The 64-year-old has been occupied with the role of technical advisor for the Turkish Football Federation since March 2020, after parting ways with Maritzburg United in January 2019.

The former Orlando Pirates coach recently conducted an interview with Kooora, who asked him about the 2024 UEFA European Championship and Turkey's run at the showpiece so far.

He was also quizzed about whether or not he still follows Tau's career, and if he had any words of advice for the South African attacker, whose future is currently up in the air.

"Percy is a great character and has gained a lot of experience. It is clear that he knows what is best for him," Ertugral responded.

The words of wisdom comes after the former Mamelodi Sundowns star was linked with a move to DStv Premiership giants Kaizer Chiefs, while newly-promoted Saudi Pro League club Al Kholood Club are also said to have made an offer for the 30-year-old.

Reports have further suggested that Al Ahly are keen on extending the forward's contract, though, and that they are actively working to keep him in Cairo beyond June 2025.

Meanwhile, with his national side competing at EURO 2024, Ertugral said that despite their 3-1 victory over Georgia in their opening encounter of the competition, the 3-0 defeat to Portugal on Saturday revealed chinks in the Turkish armour.

"Emotion always controls football fans. Some painted the victory over Georgia in the first round with a rosy outlook, but there were flaws that must be taken care of," he added.

"The loss we suffered against Portugal showed us some problems and severely limited performance."

The former Kaizer Chiefs boss also picked his favourites to go on and win the tournament.

"I expect the competition between three teams: France, which has presented promising levels; Portugal, which has high quality; and Spain, which has built a team that appears very strong and has distinct capabilities in all positions."
