It was yet another eventful weekend for South Africans on the continent, as Elias Mokwana finally opened his account in Tunisia, while coach Fadlu Davids sealed another three points for Simba SC.
Bafana Bafana star Mokwana finally scored his first goal for Esperance de Tunis in his seventh match at the club since joining from Sekhukhune United at the start of the season.
The Tunisian giants claimed a 2-0 away win over ES Sahel on Sunday, with the South African star converting brilliantly in the 88th minute, leaving the opposition defender and goalkeeper on the floor after a swift counter-attack. Following the sacking of former manager Miguel Cardoso two weeks ago, Esperance now sit sixth in the Tunisian Ligue 1 Professionnelle, five points adrift of the top of the standings.

Over in Tanzania, Davids guided Simba to yet another win, as his side narrowly beat Mashujaa 1-0 on Friday, 1 November. Simba sit second in the Tanzanian Premier League, with their 17 goals scored in the league being the second most so far, behind Singida Big Stars, who have scored 19 times already. Davids' team will play their next game on Tuesday, 5 November, against KMC before resting for the upcoming international break.
Meanwhile, in Egypt, Al Ahly opened the 2024/25 Egyptian Premier League with a 5-2 win over Fagrie Lakay's Ceramica Cleopatra on Saturday. Lakay started and played the full match, but he was not able to make a difference, as he did not get a goal or an assist. It was a similar case for his compatriot Percy Tau in terms of output, as he was brought on as an 80th-minute substitute for Al Ahly, helping his team see out the victory.
In Morocco, coach Rulani Mokwena eased the pressure on his shoulders after his side, Wydad Athletic Club, sealed a 1-0 win over FUS Rabat on Sunday to climb up to fourth in the league standings. It was a much-needed victory for the tactician, as he had lost his previous two Botola Pro 1 games, causing some unsavoury scenes from the club's fans, who threw objects onto the pitch after their last defeat at the hands of RS Berkane.
