In Africa: Ramoreboli's good fortunes continue, Mokwena held

After a weekend of scintillating action on the continent, South Africans were involved as Morena Ramoreboli was on the end of yet another good result, while Rulani Mokwena's Wydad Athletic Club dropped down the table.

After leading Botswana to their first Africa Cup of Nations qualification in 12 years, Ramoreboli returned to club duties in emphatic fashion.

The South African manager guided Jwaneng Galaxy to a commanding 3-0 victory over Morupule Wanderers FC, maintaining his side's unbeaten start to the Botswana Premier League. Galaxy now boast three wins and three draws in their six league outings.

Currently sitting fourth on the table, they trail league leaders Centre Chiefs by four points. Despite scoring only six goals in as many matches, Ramoreboli's side has displayed immense defensive resilience, remaining unbreached since the start of the season.

In Morocco, Rulani Mokwena endured a bittersweet debut in the Casablanca Derby as his Wydad Athletic Club side were held to a 1-1 draw by arch-rivals Raja Club Athletic.

Raja struck first through Pape Sakho, but Wydad salvaged a point when Mohamed Rayhi netted the equaliser. Unfortunately, the clash lacked its usual fervour, as fans were barred from attending due to security concerns. The draw leaves Wydad in seventh place on the Botola Pro 1 table.

Meanwhile, Egyptian giants Al Ahly also settled for a 1-1 draw against Al Ittihad. Amr El Solia put the hosts ahead with a 67th-minute penalty, but Al Ittihad equalised late on, thanks to Van Derrick Bekale Aubame's 87th-minute strike.

South African star Percy Tau, who has yet to start a game this season, came off the bench in the 77th minute, replacing Mahmoud Kahraba. Despite the draw, Al Ahly remain atop the Egyptian Premier League standings, having won their opening two matches.

In Tanzania, Fadlu Davids' Simba SC continued their impressive run, securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Pamba Jijj. Leonal Ateba's decisive strike extended Simba's winning streak to five matches, solidifying their position at the top of the table with a four-point lead over Sead Ramovic's Yanga SC, who have a game in hand.

Davids will be hoping to carry this domestic dominance into Simba's continental campaign, as they prepare to face FC Bravos do Maquis in their CAF Confederation Cup opener on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, South African forward Fagrie Lakay was unable to add to his tally of three goals and one assist this season, as his Ceramica Cleopatra FC side were held to a goalless draw by Haras El Hodoud SC.

Despite dominating possession with 72% and firing 18 shots, Cleopatra were unable to break the deadlock, leaving them in 11th place in the Egyptian Premier League standings.

As South African managers and players continue to make their mark across the continent, all eyes will be on their upcoming fixtures in both domestic and international competitions.
