Gamondi praises Yanga after beating SA coach to silverware

Young Africans boss Miguel Gamondi has praised his team after beating a South African coach to some early silverware for the 2024/25 campaign.

After beating Kaizer Chiefs in emphatic fashion to win the Toyota Cup in pre-season, the side led by the Argentine got their hands on another trophy in the form of the 2024 Community Shield.

The curtain-raiser to the 2024/25 league campaign consisted of Yanga, Fadlu Davids-led Simba SC, Azam FC and Coastal Union in what was a knockout tournament.

Gamondi's side kicked off their campaign by picking up a 1-0 victory over the South African coach to progress to the final, where they faced Azam, beating them by four goals to one.

Simba, meanwhile, finished in third place after a narrow 1-0 victory over Coastal Union.

After emerging victorious, the Argentine praised his team's hunger to win yet more titles.

"Our players are improving with each game. Despite the competitive nature of the match, we delivered a fantastic performance," Gamondi said, per Daily News.

"Our professionalism and hunger for titles were evident. This performance boosts our confidence for the upcoming season.

"We've shown that we play with the same intensity as we train.

"Defeating both Simba and Azam gives us confidence for the league and the CAF Champions League, although we still need to improve."

Given that Yanga won the Tanzanian Premier League by a whopping margin of 11 points last season, expectations will likely be the same heading into the new campaign.
