'Mo Salah has turned into a European person'

Liverpool and Egypt superstar Mohamed Salah has evolved into a player with a European mentality, according to a former Al Ahly star.

Salah's remarkable career trajectory has seen him rise to become one of Europe's most lethal forwards. Since joining Liverpool in 2017, he has racked up an astonishing 221 goals and 99 assists in 366 appearances.

His European adventure began in 2012 when he left El Mokawloon to sign for Swiss giants FC Basel. He later represented Chelsea, Fiorentina and AS Roma before finding his home at Anfield.

Speaking on Al Ahly TV, Saad Samir reflected on Salah's determination and growth, crediting his European exposure for the transformation.

"From the beginning, Mohamed Salah was determined to play professionally in Europe," Samir said per Algomhor.

"Even when offers came from Al Ahly and Zamalek, his focus was clear – he wanted to fulfil his dream of competing at the highest level in Europe. This mindset was evident from his early days."

Samir went on to explain that Salah's mindset has significantly evolved over the years, turning him into a figure with a distinct European approach.

"Salah is now a different person," he noted. "He thinks and operates like a European professional, with a completely transformed mentality. His journey has shaped him into someone who approaches the game with an elite level of focus and discipline."

"Salah is the most disciplined Egyptian player I've seen when it comes to embracing professionalism fully. His success isn't a coincidence. Any player who follows his example could also reach great heights."

"Salah's story is a testament to what hard work and focus can achieve," Samir concluded. "He's an inspiration for any player who dreams of reaching the pinnacle of the game," the former Al Ahly star added.

Despite his brilliance, Salah was recently excluded from the five-man shortlist for the 2024 CAF Men's Player of the Year award, a decision that has drawn criticism.

Notable names such as Simon Adingra, Serhou Guirassy, Achraf Hakimi, Ademola Lookman and South Africa's Ronwen Williams made the cut ahead of the Egyptian. Former Al Ahly star Ahmed Adel voiced his disbelief at Salah's omission.

"Who is better than Salah in Africa? Ignoring him in these selections is very strange," Adel said per El Balad.

"His numbers place him among the best in the world, let alone Africa."
