OFFICIAL: Egyptian giants' entire board resigns!

In shock news from the continent, Egyptian giants Zamalek's entire of board of directors has resigned.

Zamalek have been marred in controversy in recent times, with their former president Mortada Mansour having been removed from his position as head of the club by the court of administrative justice in April due to his imprisonment for verbally insulting Al Ahly president Mahmoud El-Khatib.

The club was also slapped with a transfer ban due to outstanding payments to former players and managers, as well as other teams, with the side reportedly still going through a financial crisis.

Among those owed money are Portuguese giants Sporting CP, who were reportedly not paid for the transfer of Mahmoud Shikabala back in 2015.

Amid growing pressure from fans, board member Soliman Wehdan has now confirmed that they have all decided to step down from their positions before the upcoming elections, which are set to take place on 31 October.

"The Zamalek board of directors has decided to submit a collective resignation, and the resignation will be presented to the Minister of Youth and Sports tomorrow," he said, according to KingFut.

"We have prioritised the interests of Zamalek over our personal interests, and we have made the decision to resign collectively with the majority of the members.

"The resignation came after extensive consultations and a study of all matters related to the club.

"There are no legal or administrative obstacles to participating in Zamalek elections in the upcoming phase, and anyone who wants to run for elections has the right to do so."

Zamalek has notably been linked with former Kaizer Chiefs talisman Khama Billiat in recent weeks, but their current financial position makes the move unlikely.
