Nwabali tipped to reach legendary heights

Stanley Nwabali has been tipped to reach legendary heights with the Nigerian national team and potentially surpass former goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama.

The shot-stopper earned continental acclaim when he was selected by then-manager Jose Peseiro to command the team from between the sticks during the Super Eagles' 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

The Chippa United star repaid the coach's trust by keeping four clean sheets in seven games, helping the side reach the final, where they narrowly lost to hosts Ivory Coast.

Since his impressive performances in the continental showpiece, Nwabali has cemented his position as the Super Eagles' first-choice goalkeeper and has since played a pivotal role in helping Nigeria qualify for the 2025 edition of the tournament, set to take place in Morocco next year.

Now, former Nigeria goalkeeper Alloysius Uzoma Agu has suggested that the Betway Premiership player has the potential to elevate himself to the legendary status of Enyeama.

"Nwabali has done well for himself and the Super Eagles," Agu told Complete Sports per SportsRation.

"When you compare him to Vincent Enyeama, you see that both have represented the country with excellence.

"Nwabali has shown confidence and focus, but there's still room for improvement.

"It's just a matter of time. He has what it takes to succeed if he keeps improving."

Enyeama was part of the Super Eagles side that won AFCON 2013, doing so for the first time since 1994.

At club level, the former LOSC Lille star won the CAF Champions League on two occasions during his stint with Nigerian outfit Enyimba Aba.
