Star discarded by Rulani at Wydad 'set for Spain move'

One of the eight players said to have been discarded by coach Rulani Mokwena at the start of his tenure at Wydad Athletic Club is now reportedly on the verge of completing a move to Spain.

According to Le Site Sports Info, Mokwena decided very early in his tenure that eight players would not be part of his team going forward.

The outlet claims that the South African coach made the decision after just eight training sessions during preseason that Salaheddine Benyachou, Charki El Bahri, Amine Farhane, Ismail Gazaoui, Hicham Ait Brayem, Ismail Moumen, Jawad Khalouk, and Taha Mourid would not be part of his plans.

The bulk of those players have since left the club, while others have been relegated to the fringes, including Mourid.

A new report by Africafoot states that goalkeeper Mourid is now close to completing a move to Spanish second-tier club Burgos CF.

Transfermarkt indicates that the player was demoted to Wydad's reserve team in August 2024 following Mokwena's arrival.

It is now reported that a transfer agreement between Wydad and Burgos is nearing the final stages, with Mourid having successfully passed his medical tests and convinced the Spanish outfit of his abilities.

Nader Lamyaghri, who worked with the 22-year-old shot-stopper in Wydad's youth system, told Africafoot that he is confident Mourid could succeed in Europe.

"Taha Mourid is a young goalkeeper full of promise. I have known him for three years, having been goalkeeper coach at Wydad Casablanca.

"He is disciplined, diligent, and trains rigorously.

"This opportunity to become a professional in Spain will allow him to develop his skills, increase his market value, and why not, one day join top clubs in Europe. I wish him much success in his career."
