Wydad chasing star who was linked with Soweto giants?

Rulani Mokwena's new side Wydad Casablanca are now said to be chasing an African star who was recently linked with a move to the Soweto giants.

After being announced as the Red Castle's new head coach last week, the South African tactician has insisted that the club sign Young Africans playmaker Stephane Aziz Ki, according to Moroccan news site Anbaetv.

It is claimed the three-time CAF Champions League winners have thus submitted an official bid to Yanga in an attempt to acquire the Burkina Faso international's services.

Per the report, the 28-year-old is the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach's first target as Wydad manager, and his desired priority signing for the upcoming season.

Mokwena will be quite familiar with the player too, having gone up against him and Young Africans in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals last season, from which Masandawana emerged victorious.

Wydad are understood to be keen to bolster their squad after an underwhelming season that saw them finish sixth on the Botola Pro 1 league table.

While Yanga have stated that Aziz Ki will stay in Tanzania next season, it remains to be seen if an exit from the club could yet transpire for the playmaker in this window.

Prior to the club announcing their stance on the attacking midfielder's future, the Burkinabe had attracted the interest of various teams across the continent, with DStv Premiership sides Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates said to be among those who were in pursuit of his signature.

It was also reported that Algerian team CR Belouizdad had offered the player a lucrative two-year contract worth R7.9 million a year

The interest in Aziz Ki was sparked by an exceptional 2023/24 campaign in which he scored 21 goals to win the domestic Golden Boot and help his side win the league title with a convincing 80 points.
