Wydad 'close' to landing Egyptian-based star after denying Tau links

After denying links to Percy Tau, Wydad Athletic Club are reportedly nearing a deal to sign another Egyptian-based star in the January window.

The Botola Pro giants are pursuing Zamalek star Seifeddine Jaziri to bolster their attacking options amid a challenging domestic campaign, according to Al Watan Sport

Jaziri, who has been at the centre of a dispute with Zamalek over alleged unpaid wages, is said to have lodged a complaint with FIFA against the Egyptian club.

It has been claimed that the Moroccan side are keen to offer the player a way out of his troubles in Cairo, as they look to reinforce their squad following the departure of Senegalese forward Mbaye Niang, who recently left the club by mutual consent.

Despite the growing speculation, securing Jaziri's signature may not be straightforward, with other clubs reportedly vying for his services during the upcoming transfer window.

Wydad's pursuit of the 31-year-old striker comes as they aim to close the gap on Botola Pro leaders RS Berkane, with the Casablanca side currently sitting fourth in the standings, 12 points adrift of the summit.

Meanwhile, Wydad president Hicham Ait Mena has quashed rumours linking the club to Al Ahly duo Percy Tau and Reda Slim.

Speaking on the matter, Ait Mena categorically denied reports that the Moroccan outfit had entered negotiations with either player, stating that there was no intention to bring the South African star or Slim to Casablanca.

In addition to Jaziri, Wydad are suggested to be eyeing Young Africans' forward Stephan Aziz Ki as a possible addition to their attacking line-up.
