Yanga boss speaks ahead of another South African test

After thumping Kaizer Chiefs two weekends ago, Young Africans boss Miguel Gamondi has now spoken ahead of yet another South African test.

The Argentine tactician led his side's pre-season tour of Mzansi, during which they participated in the Toyota Cup, in which they thrashed Amakhosi 4-0, also picked up a 1-0 victory over TS Galaxy in a friendly.

The reigning Tanzanian champions did, however, suffer a 2-1 defeat to Bundesliga outfit FC Augsburg while in the country.

Gamondi's next challenge will come in the form of Simba SC, who are headed up by South African manager Fadlu Davids, when the two sides reignite their rivalry in a Community Shield encounter scheduled to take place on Thursday.

Yanga are considered by many to be the favourites heading into the clash, given their impressive showings over the course of last season.

With their pre-season behind them, Gamondi has expressed his satisfaction at what his side has shown him ahead of what is anticipated to be a fierce curtain-raiser to kick off the upcoming domestic campaign.

"I am happy with how the team is doing in pre-season, how the team is working. We are working very hard and we try to apply what we did during the week," the manager said, per the Guardian via Africa Top Sports.

"You know, in pre-season, the result is not the most important, but it is how the team plays, though it helps to get a good result."

Young Africans have also been active in the current transfer window, signing seven players, and according to Gamondi, the new additions are fitting in well.

"They are adapting very quickly. It is very easy to work with them because they adapted very well to the system," the Argentine added.

"Our system is simple with the methodology of our training. They are already part of the team and I think they enjoy playing for us, and you can see it on the pitch."

Meanwhile, Simba beat Rwandan champions APR in a friendly encounter last weekend, but Davids feels his side is still not ready for competitive action.

"We are only on week four of pre-season so we are not ready for 90 minutes, that's for sure," the South African tactician said.

He did, however, also suggest that his team is mentally in the right place to face Yanga, and expressed a desire to have a good go at their opposition.

"90 minutes in relation to how I want to play, but we will be ready for the derby," Davids added.

"We know it is mentality. Are you strong enough mentally to be able to go against them?

"They [Yanga] have played some competitive matches as well in South Africa so it's not about us blaming our fitness, we are going to have the right mentality to go take them pound for pound, and we'll go at them."
