'Neymar needs a small club to live his stardom'

A Saudi Arabian correspondent has made a shocking assessment of Brazilian star Neymar, claiming that the player needs a smaller club.

The former Barcelona star joined Al Hilal in August 2023, but has so far made only seven appearances for the side as a result of being sidelined due to injury.

The attacker first sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and a meniscus injury in his left leg while on international duty in October last year.

He recently made his highly-anticipated return to action when he came off the bench to make an appearance during the Blue Waves' AFC Champions League clash against United Arab Emirates outfit Al Ain last month.

However, since the player cannot be registered for the 2024/25 Saudi Pro League campaign until January, he has had to settle for accumulating minutes in his side's continental campaign.

The 32-year-old made a substitute appearance in Al Hilal's 3-0 victory over Pitso Mosimane's Esteghlal FC on Monday night.

The Brazil international came on in the 58th minute, but was forced off the field in the 87th minute.

After the match, manager Jorge Jesus stated that the injury is not related to the player's knee, but it is a muscular issue. The coach added that Neymar could be out of action for another two weeks.

According to Kooora, some were displeased with the way the ex-Paris Saint-Germain star reacted to his substitution.

It has been suggested that the Brazilian was angry as he left the field, also pushing away the club's football director, Saud Kariri, who tried to calm the forward down.

Sports journalist Walid Al Farraj took to social media to express his dismay at the attacker's behaviour.

"A Hilal did not choose him and does not need him," the media personality wrote on X.

"He thought he would play and be a star in an obscure club in the Middle East - that's what he thought.

"When he came, he found himself small inside a great Saudi sports institution. The player does not fit in with Al Hilal.

"Neymar needs a small club to live his stardom in. Al Hilal deserves compensation."
