German Super Cup match report Borussia Dortmund v Bayern Munich
Borussia Dortmund defeated Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich 2-0 to clinch the DFL-Super Cup 2019 in Dortmund on Saturday. Of the three summer signings, none featured for Bayern, but Nico Schulz earned his official debut for Dortmund following his arrival from Hoffenheim. Dortumund almost raced in to a 60-second lead when a turnover in the middle found Raphael Guerreiro, who set-up Marco Reus in the area but Manuel Neuer sparred his blushes. After 20 minutes, astounding interplay from Jadon Sancho put Schulz through on goal, but Neuer's outstretched leg denied the attacking player. Marwin Hitz denied Kingsley Coman with a solid reaction save from six yards four minutes later, with Leon Goretzka firing wide from a distance. In a quiet half, the two sides went in to the break level with the Bavarians seeing loads of the ball with Dortmund hanging on by a thread. Bayern were behind two minutes from the break when Alcacer teed-off a terrific pass from Sancho to find the bottom corner from 18-yards. Hitz prevented Coman once again with a point-blank save after 58 minutes following a cross from Joshua Kimmich. While Dortmund continued to push for a second goal, Bayern re-shuffled their pack as Thomas Muller made way for Alphonso Davies on 66 minutes, with the former struggling to get going in front of goal. Three minutes later, Dortmund doubled their tally on 69 minutes when Sancho ran onto Guerreiro's delivery to fire through Neuer's legs. Bayern threw all their gauntlet, but none of it worked to their good with the Black and Yellows holding out all stops. Niko Kovac's men kept coming, but were met with a stubborn Dortmund outfit who reigned supreme in the end.
