Arsenal to sign surprise Man City star?

With Arsenal already having two former Manchester City players on their books, the Gunners could now be set to sign yet another Citizens star from arguably their biggest league rivals.

The north London side has already begun bolstering their squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, having confirmed the signings of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna and David Raya, whose loan from Brentford was made permanent.

Moreover, the club has been linked with more arrivals, including Mikel Merino of Real Sociedad and Leroy Sane of Bayern Munich.

However, it is now reported that Arsenal are considering the possibility of signing Julian Alvarez from City.

The Argentina international has made it clear he wants more playing time at the Etihad instead of playing second fiddle to Erling Haaland, and it is understood that other clubs are sniffing around his situation, with Arsenal joining Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Atletico Madrid among the teams linked with the forward.

However, The Mirror claims that signing Alvarez could be an expensive exercise for Mikel Arteta's team as City would demand a fee in the region of £80 million (R1.8 billion), plus add-ons for the striker's services.

Alvarez would be the third City player to move to the Emirates in the past three seasons, following Gabriel Jesus and Oleksander Zinchenko.

"No news. I don't have any news," Guardiola said when asked for an update on Alvarez's future ahead of the final game of City's pre-season tour of America on Saturday, in which they beat Chelsea 4-2.

"Look, Julian [Alvarez] deserves now to take his time what he needs, to come back clean. Not just in the legs – the people say it's the legs – it's especially stuff here [in the mind].

"Because playing every three days in front of 65, 70 000 people, or 50, 55 000 people is so exhausting; for the responsibility, to do well. And any one of us, in front of 65 000 [people], you don't want to perform bad.

"And it demands a lot, a lot of energy, not just physicality, the people don't understand it. And that's why they need breaks, and that's why they need holidays and they couldn't come here. The fans would love it, I would love it, but the players need rest."
