Ronaldo 'open' to enormous offer from Middle East

Cristiano Ronaldo could reportedly have a change of heart after rejecting a huge offer in the most recent transfer window that would have seen him earn £211 million (R4.2 million) a year.

The Portuguese forward was heavily linked with a move away from Manchester United in recent months after he reportedly told the club's hierarchy he wanted to leave for a team playing in the UEFA Champions League.

However, no move took place as a number of major European clubs declined the opportunity to sign him for various reasons, including his enormous wages

With a desire to play at the highest level, the 37-year-old was also said to have turned down an offer from an unnamed Saudi Arabian club that reportedly offered him £2 million (R40 million) a week in wages, while another proposal was believed to be worth £211 million (R4.2 billion) a year.

According to the Daily Mirror, though, the Saudi option has now become a more attractive proposition to the forward as manager Erik ten Hag seemingly prefers Marcus Rashford playing through the middle instead of the Portuguese.

With Ronaldo said to still be eyeing an exit, it is further claimed he could be coming to the conclusion that his long-running Champions League journey is set to end, and his camp could be coming round to the idea that if he is not playing in Europe's biggest club competition, he might as well earn big wages elsewhere.

In a recent interview, Saudi Arabian Football Federation president Yasser Al-Misehal revealed that the offer for Ronaldo still stands if the striker wants to leave United.

"We would love to see a player like Cristiano Ronaldo playing in the Saudi league, it would bring a huge positive feedback and it would be big news for everyone," he told The Athletic.

"I'm sure everyone knows the achievements and records of Cristiano Ronaldo, but also as a player who is a great role model.

"I think, 'Why not?', I'm sure it would be a very expensive deal, of course, but we can see our clubs getting higher revenues in the past couple of years.

"We have already seen some big players who used to play in the Premier League come to the Saudi league.

"I like Cristiano Ronaldo as a player and I would like to see him play in Saudi Arabia."
