Coach Pep Guardiola recently extended his contract by two more years and is now looking to bolster his squad to challenge on all fronts once again.

The report adds that the English outfit are prepared to pay Leverkusen €100 million in order to secure the 21-year-old's services.

Wirtz could also be seen as a long-time successor to Kevin de Bruyne, whose future at the Etihad remains unclear heading into the final few months of his contract.

The German midfielder, who has netted seven goals this season, has three years left on his current contract with the Bundesliga champions.

Earliert his year, Wirts also claim his future does not depend on coach Xabi Alonso who has been linked with bigger clubs.

„It's extremely important for me that I have such a good relationship with him. But of course we decide on our future independently of each other. I'm not tying my path to his," Wirtz told SPIEGEL.
