Arsenal kept their unbeaten run alive with a 1-0 victory away to Everton in Premier League action on Sunday evening.
The Gunners made two changes to the side that thrasher Manchester United, as goalkeeper David Raya was handed his debut while Fabio Vieira took the place of Kai Havertz, who dropped to the bench.
Mikel Arteta's charges were on the front foot early on and Gabriel Martinelli found the back of the net on 19 minutes with a curler into the bottom corner after a through ball by Vieira but the goal was disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for offside.
Arsenal had to make a change just after that as Martinelli succumbed to injury and he was replaced by Leandro Trossard.
Everton grew in the game after the half-hour mark as they fashioned their own chances but they could not yet trouble Raya.
As the game opened up, Ben White had a chance to break the deadlock for the visitors just before the interval after exchanging passes with Martin Odegaard and went through on goal but his thumping shot was smothered by shot-stopper Jordan Pickford.
The Gunners had a quick start in the second stanza as within two minutes, Odegaard forced a save out of Pickford at the near post after he was slipped through by Declan Rice.
However, Arteta's men could not maintain their attacking intensity and on 66 minutes, the Spanish tactician eventually brought on Gabriel Jesus in place of Eddie Nketiah in a straight swap up top while Sean Dyche also brought his top marksman Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who replaced Beto upfront.
Trossard finally broke the deadlock for the Gunners three minutes later with a left-footed side-footed shot that went in off the far post after he was teed up by Saka in the box.
Dyche's troops were eager to get forward but they opened gaps at the back and were fortunate not to go 2-0 down in the last 13 minutes after Pickford denied Odegaard in a one-on-one and Vieira's shot from the rebound was blocked from finding the gaping net.
Arsenal still made the Toffees to chase the ball in the dying minutes and kept them well occupied in their own half and secured a narrow win in the end.
