Real Madrid and Juventus target Portugal wonderkid João Félix dubbed 'the new Cristiano Ronaldo'

The 19-year-old who spent time in the development ranks of the esteemed FC Porto academy has become one of the hottest prospects within Portuguese football over the past 12 months since breaking into the Benfica first-team.

Since earning promotion from the club's academy at the start of the 2018/19 season, the technically gifted winger has netted eight goals and registered three assists in just 12 starts across all competitions.

Nicknamed 'the Hurricane Felix' by local media, the teenager became the youngest ever scorers in the Lisbon Derby which has alerted Europe's elite club's of his pedigree despite his tender years.

According to Spanish publication AS, Real have been aware of Félix’s prowess ever since he destroyed Guti’s under-19s in the UEFA Youth League semi-finals in 2016-17 with a brace - and they have followed his progress since.

Manchester United and rivals City were credited with interest in his services with reported 60 million (R916m) bids during the January transfer window but the Primeira Liga title-chasers responded by handing him a pay rise and hiking his release clause to 120m (R1.83 billion).

Nonetheless, the player himself has seemingly cast his eyes on a destination to play alongside his childhood hero.

"All the best Portuguese players have gone to play in the most important foreign leagues, and of course I'd like to do that too.

"I have two big dreams: I'd like to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo because he's simply the best. He's an idol, a world icon, an example for everyone."
