Yamal's agent makes 'big request' to Barcelona

Spanish sensation Lamine Yamal's agent is now reported to have made a big request to FC Barcelona after the teenager's record-breaking display at the 2024 UEFA European Championship.

The 17-year-old made history at EURO 2024 with Spain, breaking several records in Germany, including one for the youngest player to ever win the tournament and its Young Player of the Tournament award.

Prior to the showpiece, Yamal had also become an integral figure for Barca in the 2023/24 season, having made 50 appearances across all competitions for the side, registering seven goals and 10 assists, all before turning 17 years old.

As such, the winger is now one of the most highly-regarded youngsters in the world, and his agent, Jorge Mendes, is said to have made a new request to the Catalan giants regarding his teenage client.

According to SPORT, Mendes has asked Barcelona to improve Yamal's current wages to reflect his value and status as a footballer.

The Portuguese agent is said to be demanding a significantly higher salary for the attacker, who signed his first professional contract right after turning 16 just last year, in line with regulations allowing only a three-year deal, which runs until June 2026.

It is further reported that Barca president Joan Laporta has privately agreed to improve Yamal's contract, and will take the necessary steps to make the deal happen despite the club's widely publicised financial issues.

Moreover, the Blaugrana hierarchy has also reportedly agreed to insert a €1 billion (R19.9 billion) release clause in his contract in order to deter any potential suitors from trying to lure him away from the Camp Nou.
