Messi on Barca youngsters: It doesn't surprise me

Argentina and Inter Miami star Lionel Messi had some special praise for the young players at FC Barcelona.

Messi came through the youth ranks at the famous La Masia academy and played alongside the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets, who were all Barcelona products.

The current generation of youngsters, include 17-year-old Lamine Yamal who recently finished eighth in the Ballon d'Or ranking.

This season has seen coach Hansi Flick utilise a lot of the youngsters, something which Messi is very proud to see.

"It's a source of pride to see how the first team is represented right now. I see it as spectacular, and it's not something that surprises me," Messi said in an interview with Catalan television TV3 on Friday.

"This is something that has been happening throughout life, or at least since I arrived at 13 years old," Messi added.

"I think it's fantastic that the boys have had the chance for a couple of years now, and when they are given the opportunity and the trust, they respond this way because they know the club better than anyone.

'They are used to playing the way they play today, and when supported, things happen like in times gone by."
