Top manager hints at replacing Xavi at Barcelona

A top manager in Europe has now seemingly thrown his name into the hat for the job after Xavi Hernandez's decision to step down from the FC Barcelona helm.

On Saturday, Xavi confirmed he will leave the Catalan club at the end of the season after almost three years in charge.

The Spaniard made the announcement soon after his side was handed a 5-3 defeat at home by Villarreal.

Speaking at a post-match press conference, the Barcelona boss said, per Goal: "I will leave Barcelona in June. We have reached a point of no return. It's time for change. As a Cule, I think that it's time to leave. I spoke with the board and the club today. I will leave on the 30th of June. I took this decision days ago. I already knew it. But it's time to make it public. I don't want to be a problem for the club, but the opposite."

Barca are now looking for a replacement for the 44-year-old, who guided them to the LALIGA and the Spanish Super Cup titles in the 2022/23 campaign.

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has since hinted at coaching in Spain in the future, having previously managed teams in France, England, and Germany.

According to SportBible, Tuchel said: "Moving abroad would appeal to me again. Spain has an extraordinary league.

"From my perspective, and based on my experience working with Spaniards, they are characterised by a tremendous amount of self-confidence.

"When you speak with Spanish players, I quickly get the sense that you are engaging with the person."

A report by Marca claims that the Barca hierarchy is keen on hiring an experienced manager, which would rule out the like of Rafael Marquez and Thiago Motta, who have both been linked with the role.

It further states that the Blaugrana squad would like to see Luis Enrique return to the club instead.
