Al Ahly legend heaps praise on 'smart' Pitso Mosimane after Bayern Munich display

Former Al Ahly defender Samir Kamouna has backed Pitso Mosimane amid the criticism he's received after their FIFA Club World Cup semi-final defeat against Bayern Munich.

Mosimane suffered his first defeat after 23 games as the Red Devils head coach when Bayern Munich progressed to the final thanks to a brace from superstar striker Robert Lewandowski.

While Ahly were praised for their ability to stifle the European champions and produced an inspiring second-half display, a section of supporters voiced their discontent for their subdued attack.

This was echoed by Kamouna's former teammate and 68-time capped former Egypt defender Mohamed Emara who claimed Mosimane is 'poor in managing matches' and has not left an 'imprint' on the team since his arrival.

But Kamouna suggests otherwise, hailing the record nine-time African champions and the South African's influence - whom he believes will bring further success to the Egyptian giants.

"It's a huge honor for Al Ahly to reach the Club World Cup for the sixth time and to face one of the greatest clubs in the World," Kamouna told On-Time Sports, as per Yallakora.

"Al Ahly did all they could and I am glad about their performance. Barcelona had lost to Bayern by eight goals, Tottenham by seven, and Chelsea by three. Whoever says that Al Ahly played poorly, have no idea about football. Al Ahly is a great club and can deal well with big games, and they have a smart head coach.

"Mosimane, in the long term, will improve and he can get the best out of every player. From 23 games, he won 18, and his only loss came against Bayern Munich. Pitso also won the CAF Champions League, and if he wins all his remaining league games, Al Ahly will go top of the table."

The Club of the Century will have the chance to secure third place in the prestigious club competition on Thursday when they take on South American champions Palmeiras at the Education City Stadium (17h00).
