Ex-Brazil star: We must be wary of Tau!

With Al Ahly set for a thrilling FIFA Club World Cup semi-final with Fluminense on Monday night, a former Brazil star has now issued a serious warning about Percy Tau.

The Egyptian giants thrashed Saudi Arabian champions Al Ittihad 3-1 on Friday night to book their spot in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Goals by Ali Maaloul, Hussein El Shahat, and Enam Ashour were enough to ensure victory, while Karim Benzema's 92nd-minute strike serving only as consolation.

Tau played 86 minutes of that match before he was substituted off for Anthony Modeste, who received a red card just four minutes after coming on.

However, Fluminense's sporting director Fred, who played as a striker for Brazil between 2005 and 2014, has since name-checked South Africa's as a big threat to his side, despite the Bafana Bafana star not getting on the scoresheet on Friday.

"We will do everything to qualify for the World Cup final, and we are working with all our might to present a distinguished football show in the tournament," he told On Time Sports channel.

"I have not heard any player from Fluminense underestimate Al Ahly. We know the Egyptian club well and know its strength, and the match will be difficult and exciting for football fans because it will be at a very high competitive level.

"We knew that Al Ahly was the strongest candidate to win against Al Ittihad, and the red team was the best on the field and controlled the level of play, as well as individual skills, which were in its favour, and all of that contributed to the victory over Al Ittihad in Jeddah.

"Percy Tau is the player who appeared at the most distinguished level in Al Ahly. He has great abilities in possessing the ball and dribbling. He won all the individual confrontations and represented a great threat to Al-Ittihad's goal.

"Al Ahly fans will be present in large numbers at the match, but our fans will also attend the match in large numbers.

"Al Ahly has very high quality players and we know that the match against them will be very difficult, but we believe in winning and we strive to please the fans and we always try to score goals and we hope to qualify for the Club World Cup final."
