Mamelodi Sundowns FIFA Club World Cup Dream XI - where are they now?

With Pitso Mosimane competing in his second FIFA Club World Cup of his career - here is the starting XI of the Mamelodi Sundowns squad he lead for his tournament debut.

Mosimane has not hidden his desire to one day lift the prestigious title and his first major step to realising his dream was the 2016 edition when he led Masandawana to unknown territory in Japan.

As the champions of Africa and first-ever South African team to compete in the tournament it was a baptism of fire as they lost to Asian champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors 2-0 with Yasushi Endo and Mu Kanazaki grabbing two second-half goals.

"I'm happy with my boys, I'm proud of my boys. I think they played well," Mosimane said after the game. "It was important to come and compete at the global level and only then would we know where we stand.

"You can see why they [Jeonbuk] are the Asian champions, they play good, quick football and we've learnt just like we did the first time in the [CAF] Champions League. They play at a high level and we now know our level in South Africa and in Africa, and now in the world."

With an attacking line-up that held Percy Tau - now at Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League - the Tshwane giants star-studded squad earned invaluable experience in their historic foray.

Only six of that famous starting line-up remain at the club today and 10 of the overall 23 man squad, while the likes of Thabo Nthethe and Teko Modise have since retired from football.
