Gyan responds after missing out on Ghana WC Squad

Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan has responded after being left of the Black Stars' 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World despite various calls for his inclusion in the lead up to the announcement.

Gyan remains the West African country's all-time top goal scorer with 46 goals in 105 matches. Many in his country, including former Ghana Football Association executives were calling for his inclusion in the World Cup team due to his vast experience in the competition.

The 36-year-old is also the highest-scoring African in the history of the tournament with six goals and in the last few months he also revealed he would honour the invitation if national team coach Atto Addo called him up despite not having a club at the moment.

On Monday, the squad was announced and Gyan was named among the 26 players. The former Sunderland marksman, who many thought had an outside chance of being included, has now broken his silence about not making it to Qatar.

"Everyone have shared his or her opinion about the BLACK STARS. 26 man squad is out now so what we have to do now is to support those in camp now.

"If u have any comments, wait till after the first game of the tournament. But for now, let's pray for the team to deliver," he wrote on Twitter.

The four-time Africa Cup of Nations champions head into the tournament as the lowest ranked team (61st) in the entire spectacle, while their highest finish at the World Cup famously came in 2010 in South Africa, where Gyan missed a crucial penalty against Uruguay which could have sent them through to the semifinals and become the first African country to do so.
